PHYSICS PhD PROGRAM

General Information


Purpose:

The aim of the program is to train individuals who can produce, apply and disseminate original knowledge in accordance with the developing world of science and technology, thus both to train the manpower at the postgraduate level that our country needs, and to take its place in the race with scientific studies carried out in the world, and especially to meet the need for scientists.

Admission and Registration Conditions:

In order to apply for the PhD Program, the following conditions must be met:

It is required to have a bachelor's degree or a master's degree with thesis, a diploma of at least ten semesters in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary faculties, excluding preparatory classes, or a specialist authority gained in a laboratory branch in accordance with the principles regulated by the Ministry of Health.

(a) Candidates must have a thesis master's degree approved by the relevant E ABD/EASD and accepted by EYK.

(b) Obtaining at least 65 (sixty-five) points from ALES in the type of program applied for.

(c) Must get at least 55 (fifty-five) points from YDS or an equivalent score from a foreign language exam accepted by the Interuniversity Board.

(d) The success evaluation score for student admission to the PhD Program is 50% of the ALES score, 20% of the master's degree graduation grade, 10% of the YDS score and 20% of the written and/or interview exam (each written and interview exam If both are done, it is calculated by taking into account 10% of the written score and 10% of the oral score). A success evaluation grade is not determined for students who score below 50 out of 100 in the written and/or interview exam, and these students are considered unsuccessful and are not ranked. In addition, in order for a student to be considered successful, the total score obtained from ALES, master's degree graduation, YDS and written and/or interview exam scores must be at least 50 points.

(e) Written and/or interview exam juries are composed of 5 (3) or 5 (five) principals and 2 (two) substitutes by EYK, among the 7 (seven) faculty members proposed by the E ABD presidency for each announced program. five) or 7 (seven) faculty members are determined as the exam jury. Written and/or interview exam is conducted by E ABD. Candidates who do not take the written and/or interview exam are considered unsuccessful.

(f) The candidate who does not take one of the scientific evaluation exams (written/oral) to be held by the relevant ESD presidency is deemed unsuccessful.

(g) Candidates in the main list determined within the announced quota are announced on the institute's website for final registration. Candidates on the main list who have not registered will be registered from the reserve list on the announced day and time, according to their success order, until the quota is filled.


Time of Education:

(1) The doctoral program is eight semesters for those accepted with a thesis master's degree, excluding the time spent in scientific preparation, starting from the semester in which the courses related to the program in which they are registered are given, regardless of whether they are registered for each semester, and the maximum completion period is twelve semesters; For those accepted with a bachelor's degree, the duration is ten semesters and the maximum completion period is fourteen semesters.
(2) The maximum period for successfully completing the required credit courses for the doctoral program is four semesters for those accepted with a master's degree with thesis, and six semesters for those accepted with a bachelor's degree. The student who cannot successfully complete the credit courses within this period or cannot achieve the minimum GPA required by the University will be dismissed from the University.
(3) The student who successfully completes the credit courses, is successful in the qualifying exam and whose thesis proposal is accepted, but cannot complete the thesis work by the end of the twelve or fourteen semesters specified in the first paragraph, will be dismissed from the University.
(4) Among the students who have applied to the doctoral program with a bachelor's degree, those who cannot complete their credit courses and/or thesis work within the maximum period, and those who are not successful in their doctoral thesis are given a non-thesis master's degree upon their request, provided that they have fulfilled the credit load, project and other similar conditions required for a non-thesis master's degree.


Course and Credit Load: 

(1) Doctoral program, for students accepted with a master's degree with thesis, at least seven compulsory and elective courses, seminar, qualifying exam, thesis proposal and thesis study, provided that it is not less than 21 credits in total and 60 ECTS in one academic semester. It consists of at least 240 ECTS credits. For students accepted with a bachelor's degree, it consists of a total of at least 300 ECTS credits, including 14 courses of at least 42 credits, a seminar, a qualifying exam, a thesis proposal and a thesis study.
(2) In doctoral programs, the student may choose a maximum of two courses for students accepted with a master's degree, and a maximum of four courses for students accepted with a bachelor's degree, from courses offered at other higher education institutions, with the opinion of the advisor, the recommendation of the E ABD/EASD presidency and the approval of the EYK.
(3) Undergraduate courses do not count towards course load and doctoral credits. In addition, courses taken and successfully completed in graduate education are not counted in the course load and credits of higher education. A student can enroll in a maximum of five courses in a semester.
(4) Doctoral programs cannot be opened as evening education.
(5) The thesis to be prepared at the end of the doctoral study must meet at least one of the qualifications of bringing innovation to science, developing a new scientific method, and applying a known method to a new field.


Success Audit:

PhD student; In order to take the proficiency exam, the weighted GPA must be at least 3.00. A student who cannot meet the average requirement cannot take the proficiency exam and is obliged to repeat or take new courses. The overall weighted grade point average for graduation cannot be less than 3.00.
